DPISD announces summer food service program
The Deer Park Independent School District will offer free meals for all children ages 18 and younger as part of its Summer Food Service Program. No enrollment or registration is required to participate in this federally-funded program. Adults are also encouraged to participate. The cost for an adult breakfast is $2, and an adult lunch costs $3. Meals will be served at the following location:
DPPD honors fallen officers

Members of the Deer Park Police Department were joined by members of several other local agencies to pay tribute to officers who lost their lives in the line of duty at Peace Officer's Memorial Day.
Last year, 163 federal, state and local officers died on duty. Since 1791, about 19,600 died while serving.
Pasadena Police Chief Michael Thaler was the afternoon's guest speaker. He solemnly admitted he was no stranger to police officer funerals. He said in his 35 years of law enforcement, 33 times the agency where he was employed had an officer killed on duty.
New-look council sets ambulance billing policy

Deer Park City Council unanimously accepted the results of Saturday's municipal elections and installed three members at Tuesday's meeting.
Bill Patterson, Beckie Stockstill-Cobb and Rae Sinor were each given their oaths of office in front of a standing-room only chamber and took their seats at Positions 4, 5 and 6 respectively. After the ceremonial oaths, Council breezed through a light agenda.
Man allegedly attempts to lure teen
Deer Park Police are looking for information on a man who allegedly attempted to lure a teen to his vehicle last week.
On May 7, DPPD received a call concerning a male who called out to a 14-year-old female at the 300 block of E. Second Street. Acting Lt. Ian Sawtell of the DPPD Investigations Bureau, said the white male is described only as having reddish hair.
The alleged suspect yelled "Come here," and then drove off in a maroon car. The incident happened at about 7:30 p.m.

DWI chase ends in Deer Park
A 19-year-old man was arrested in Deer Park following a chase that ended at Pasadena Boulevard and Center Street Thursday.
According to La Porte Police, at 12:46 p.m., a red Ford F-150 was spotted in their jurisdiction driving erratically and in emergency lanes near State Highway 146 and Main Street/Spencer Hwy. Sgt. John Kruger of LPPD said a La Porte police officer attempted to stop the man, identified as Oscar Santiago of Pasadena.
Local Marine to be awarded Navy Cross
A La Porte Marine with Deer Park ties will be awarded the Navy Cross this weekend at Camp Pendleton. Sgt. Christopher B. Farias, son of Penni Farias, a Shell Deer Park Real Estate Analyst, earned the highest decoration bestowed by the U.S. Department of the Navy. The Navy Cross is awarded for extreme valor and risk of life beyond the call of duty. With multiple wounds, Sgt. Farias led a counterattack enabling fellow Marines to evacuate injured comrades during a strike by Taliban forces in May of 2010 in Afghanistan.
