This week, we spend a few minutes with Tim Culp, CEO of the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce.
InsideDP.com: Where are you from originally?
Tim Culp: I lived in Mineola for 15 years and then went to Crockett. I was there from 1980 until I moved here to Deer Park.
What was it like growing up in East Texas?
It was truly small town. Everybody knew everybody and everybody knew everybody in the county. There were a lot of good traditional, hometown values. I think it is important that I learned good, true hometown values from where I grew up. We didn't have a lot of the amenities that you had in bigger towns, but that was OK. We made our own fun.
What did you do after you graduated?
After I graduated, I went to Sam Houston State for a short period of time. After that, I decided that I wanted to work. I found work with a furniture company, what I ended up doing was going into business for myself. I ended up in a partnership with a company that sold medical equipment. I became the sole owner of that business and owned it until about two years before we came to Deer Park. We served about a 200-mile radius around Crockett.

With the first kick-off just two days away Deer Park football head coach Christ Massey visited the Deer Park Rotary Club on Wednesday.
Massey, who was hired in 2004, talked about the challenges of playing in a six-team district.
"Finding non-district opponents wasn't easy because when everyone else is in an eight-team district," he said. Unlike other teams in this predicament, the Deer did not have to schedule games with schools in Dallas or San Antonio like other schools have.
The Deer start the season Friday night at Abshier Stadium against the Dickinson Gators.
"We were born ready," Massey said. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
Returning five starters on offense and three on defense, the Deer will be a younger athletic team during the 2010 campaign, he said.
"Darian Banks (a senior) is our 6-6 wide receiver. He just needs to tell the quarterback 'Put it up there, I'll go get it,'" Massey said.
Massey is also leaning on senior tight end Payden McVey for leadership and big plays. "Keep your eyes on No. 88. He's big and powerful and fun to watch."

CGA provides strategic direction and public education to protect underground utility lines and the safety of people who dig near them. National 8-1-1 Day reminds people to dial 8-1-1before they dig to learn what's below the ground. One call to the national number designated by the Federal Communications Commission, and the 8-1-1 call center will arrange to send a professional locator to a property to mark the location of underground utilities and infrastructure. The FCU (Furthering Community Unity) Team powered by Shell FCU was created to provide opportunities for giving back in communities and teaching the value of social responsibility in a fun team setting. A recent opportunity, Supplies for Students fundraiser, was held to raise money to cover the costs of school packs for students in need from the Deer Park, Pasadena, La Porte and Pearland Independent School Districts. From July 15 to Aug. 15, the team dedicated efforts toward collections and thanks to its dedication and determination, not to mention a little healthy competition between branches, raised a total of $5,669.
Members who donated were acknowledged with their name and contribution on Apple Displays in the lobbies. Branches competed against each other in friendly competition to see which could collect the most. Employees paid to wear jeans to work, brought in baked goods to sell, raffled off cakes, brownies and car washes, held a silent auction, and on the last day, emptied the change in their pockets - all in support of Supplies for Students. The Deer Park Branch, located at 301 E. 13th Street won the challenge.
