San Jacinto College Central's theatre and film department will extend "Shaken" for a special fundraising performance on Sept. 3. All proceeds from the show will be donated to the Houston Area Parkinson Society. Due to numerous requests from the community, the show will also be performed on Sept. 4.The curtain time for both shows will be 7:30 p.m
The College presented the world premiere of "Shaken" on Aug. 27, with plans to run for one weekend only. The performance was so well received that Dr. Jerry Ivins, director of the show, decided to extend the show as a way to help the fight against Parkinson's disease.
"We encourage the community to come out and enjoy this humorous, entertaining, and often poignant show, while also helping to find a cure for this disorder," Ivins said.
A few minutes with Tim Culp

This week, we spend a few minutes with Tim Culp, CEO of the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce.
InsideDP.com: Where are you from originally?
Tim Culp: I lived in Mineola for 15 years and then went to Crockett. I was there from 1980 until I moved here to Deer Park.
What was it like growing up in East Texas?
It was truly small town. Everybody knew everybody and everybody knew everybody in the county. There were a lot of good traditional, hometown values. I think it is important that I learned good, true hometown values from where I grew up. We didn't have a lot of the amenities that you had in bigger towns, but that was OK. We made our own fun.
What did you do after you graduated?
After I graduated, I went to Sam Houston State for a short period of time. After that, I decided that I wanted to work. I found work with a furniture company, what I ended up doing was going into business for myself. I ended up in a partnership with a company that sold medical equipment. I became the sole owner of that business and owned it until about two years before we came to Deer Park. We served about a 200-mile radius around Crockett.

Massey talks football, character building to Rotary

With the first kick-off just two days away Deer Park football head coach Christ Massey visited the Deer Park Rotary Club on Wednesday.
Massey, who was hired in 2004, talked about the challenges of playing in a six-team district.
"Finding non-district opponents wasn't easy because when everyone else is in an eight-team district," he said. Unlike other teams in this predicament, the Deer did not have to schedule games with schools in Dallas or San Antonio like other schools have.
The Deer start the season Friday night at Abshier Stadium against the Dickinson Gators.
"We were born ready," Massey said. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
Returning five starters on offense and three on defense, the Deer will be a younger athletic team during the 2010 campaign, he said.
"Darian Banks (a senior) is our 6-6 wide receiver. He just needs to tell the quarterback 'Put it up there, I'll go get it,'" Massey said.
Massey is also leaning on senior tight end Payden McVey for leadership and big plays. "Keep your eyes on No. 88. He's big and powerful and fun to watch."

Students of San Jacinto College North's vocational nursing program recently participated in a special Nightingale graduation ceremony, named after the "Mother of Nursing," Florence Nightingale.
Keynote speaker Jeffery Lockett, a nursing instructor at the College, commended the students for their dedication, and encouraged them to be sincere and genuine. "Be a nurse for the right reasons," Lockett commented. "Don't make it about the money, but about providing quality medical care with compassion to people in need. You are not called to get a red carpet treatment, but rather to roll up your sleeves and serve others with care and mercy. Follow the example of Mother Theresa, who treated each patient as though he or she were Christ."
The Nightingale ceremony is the equivalent to a commencement exercise for nursing students at the North campus, during which graduating students bear lighted lamps and recite the Nightingale Pledge.
