STEPS students step up

Performers from STEPS Performing Art Center and parents kicked it up a notch when they were asked to perform three recital programs in one day instead of the two that they were scheduled for. The One Hit Wonder performances were off the chart and had rave reviews by all. Congratulations to the following students for being recognized at the recital for being Students of the Year: Berkley Fowler, Summer Smith, Haley Mundy, Caylie Sampson and Heather Saint.

 

Military news: Daniel A. Cerda

Army Pvt. Daniel A. Cerda has graduated from the Field Artillery Firefinder Radar Operator Advanced Individual Training (AIT) course at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

The student learned to establish and maintain radio and wire communications; operate and maintain firefinder radars and associated equipment; construct fortifications, bunkers, and crew-served weapons emplacements; and perform operator maintenance on prime movers, radar systems, and related equipment.
   
He is the son of Mary M. Beal of Houston. His stepmother, Victoria Frazier, resides in Deer Park. The private is a 2009 graduate of Pasadena High School.

Air Force Airman Daniel M. McBride graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
 
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force

He is the son of Frank McBride of Pasadena and is a 2009 graduate of Deer Park High School.

Air Force Airman Joshua A. Dray graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

DPHS's Mills selected to attend prestigious workshop

Matthew Mills has been selected to attend the 2010 Youth Range Workshop at the Texas Tech University Center-Junction on June 20-25. County selection of participants involved in 4-H and FFA programs was based on outstanding projects, leadership and interest in range and natural resource management.

Matthew's local sponsor is Phelps State Farm Insurance, a strong supporter of range education and leadership development of local youth. He attends Deer Park High School and is the son of Mike and Donna Mills.
 
The weeklong Youth Range Workshop, sponsored by the Texas Section Society for Range Management is held annually to recognize outstanding Texas youth and to provide them with an opportunity for complimentary training in range and natural resource management, stewardship and leadership. According to Dr. Barron Rector and Hoyt Seidensticker, Workshop co-coordinators, youth participants will learn about the principles of ecology, ecosystem level management, total resource management, range and watershed management and gain an understanding of the plant-soil-water relationship.

PALs and PALees bond over books

Deer Park High School PALs joined their Carpenter Elementary counterparts recently for a special presentation. Through a grant by the Deer Park Education Foundation and some help from DPHS instructor Dan Rosenberg and Barnes and Nobel Bookstores, the PALs presented their "PALee" a book that they chose specifically for them. Military News: Andrew M. Beediahram

Andrew Michael Beediahram completed his basic training and participated in graduation exercises at Lackland Airforce Base on April 23.

Beediahram will continue special operations training at Hurlburt Field, Florida.

His proud family are parents Ashford and Mona Beediahram; siblings Melissa, Michelle and Marsha Beediahram and pet Snickers.
