FCU Team raises funds for needy students

The FCU (Furthering Community Unity) Team powered by Shell FCU was created to provide opportunities for giving back in communities and teaching the value of social responsibility in a fun team setting. A recent opportunity, Supplies for Students fundraiser, was held to raise money to cover the costs of school packs for students in need from the Deer Park, Pasadena, La Porte and Pearland Independent School Districts.  From July 15 to Aug. 15, the team dedicated efforts toward collections and thanks to its dedication and determination, not to mention a little healthy competition between branches, raised a total of $5,669.

Members who donated were acknowledged with their name and contribution on Apple Displays in the lobbies. Branches competed against each other in friendly competition to see which could collect the most. Employees paid to wear jeans to work, brought in baked goods to sell, raffled off cakes, brownies and car washes, held a silent auction, and on the last day, emptied the change in their pockets - all in support of Supplies for Students. The Deer Park Branch, located at 301 E. 13th Street won the challenge.

To date, the FCU team has raised $9,071 and donated 1,120 hours in volunteer service in the community. The FCU team would like to thank Shell FCU employees, members and all those in the community who have helped meet its goals in this fundraiser and attended sponsored events.
