Written by InsideDP.com staff. Posted in Latest

English professor Dr. Ann Pearson of San Jacinto College is this year's Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year.

Pearson was presented with her award by SJC Central campus President Dr. Neil Matkin at a recent Deer Park Chamber of Commerce Salute to Education luncheon.

"I feel very honored by this," said Pearson. "It means a lot, to be recognized along with other educators who do so much in the classroom each day."

Pearson joined SJC Central in 2006 and serves as a Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning faculty fellow. She is also the lead editor and president of Editorial Resources, Inc., and author of numerous publications, including "The Art of Re-View: Revision in the Adult Composition Classroom" for the Arizona English Bulletin, "Charles Reade's Hard Cash: Lunacy Reform through Sensationalism" for the Dickens Studies Annual, and the "The Madman Under the Gables: Insanity Reconsidered in The House of the Seven Gables" for La Ventana: The Journal of the Southwest Symposium.

She has also presented at such events as the Southwest Symposium in Albuquerque, N.M.; Northwest British Studies Conference in Boise, Idaho; and the Language and Literature Conference in Waco, Texas. Pearson earned her Bachelor of Arts in English from Texas A&M University, and her Master of Arts in English and Doctorate in English from the University of New Mexico.

Most recently, Pearson earned a nomination for the prestigious Minnie Stevens Piper Professor award.

"Dr. Pearson has helped the Central campus become what it is today by offering her students the best in higher education," said Matkin. "We are truly a better college for having her."
