Mayme E Buchanan

Written by Obituary. Posted in Obituaries

mayme bMayme was born October 29, 1920 to William Augustus Morrison and Bessie Jane (Daniel) Morrison of Houston, TX. Her extraordinarily long life ended March 6, 2017 with her family by her side.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard W. Buchanan; and her elder brother, James Everett Morrison. Mayme is survived by her daughter, Jean Ann Buchanan of Las Cruces, New Mexico; her son, Richard (Rick) L. Buchanan, daughter-in-law, Averill, and grandson, Kyle D. Buchanan, all of Pasadena, TX. Additionally, Mayme is survived by her younger brother, William R. Morrison, his wife, Koleta Fern (Caplinger) Morrison, of Hamilton, TX; and their son, William Jr. of Haltom City, TX.

Mayme and her husband were founding members of Sunset United Methodist Church, a worship home she supported throughout her life. As a homemaker she cared for the ones she loved most. Her interests saw her exercising a green thumb in the garden, generating precision stitches in countless handmade quilts, and sewing and crocheting for her home and for others. The yard was always filled with radiant blooms from numerous rose bushes tended by her on a daily basis and the latest random stray cat that had found a permanent home. Ever the one to care for family, her work took her from serving as a den mother for a Cub Scout Pack all the way to cooking fish and any number of wild game selections brought home by her husband. Blessed by good health for 96 years, Mayme was able to engage in these activities and more throughout her days.

Friends are invited to visit with Mayme's family on Thursday evening, March 9th, from 5:00 to 8:00pm at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, TX 77505. Graveside services will be held at Grand View Cemetery on Friday, March 10th at 12:00 noon with Reverend Emily Everett of First United Methodist Church-Pasadena officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to: Sunset United Methodist Church, 709 Allendale, Pasadena, TX 77502 or to the Prayers and Squares Quilt Ministry of First United Methodist Church, 1062 Fairmont Parkway, Pasadena, TX 77504.
