Nina Joe McQueen

Written by Obituary. Posted in Obituaries

ninaNina Joe McQueen (Allee) passed away on March 10, 2017 after a brief and courageous battle with pneumonia, surrounded by her loving family at the time of her passing. Nina was born on November 8, 1937 in Houston County and grew up in Austonio, Texas.
After graduating from Austonio High School, she met and married the love of her life, William McQueen of Pennington, Texas, in 1955 and moved to Houston. After living a short time in Houston, Nina and William moved to Pasadena in 1956 and have been lifetime residents.

Nina worked 12 years at HL&P as a secretary and clerk before quitting work to start a family in 1967. In September of that year she welcomed her only child, Bill, into the world. He would be her proudest accomplishment and their love for each other knew no bounds.

Everyone who knew Nina appreciated her fiery wit and genius for colorful language. She had no fear and would tell anyone she met exactly what she wanted them to hear, often in language that made sure to leave a lasting impression. She had a zest for life that was infectious and she had a sense of humor and a way with words that would leave everyone laughing. Her smile would light up a room and she loved to laugh and joke with her friends at the Golden Corral, where she and William often socialized over their evening meal for the last 25 years.

Nina is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Carrie Allee, her older sister, Lillian Ann Brantley, and her younger brother, Johnson Allee. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, William McQueen of Pasadena, son, William (Bill) McQueen, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Teresa McQueen. Bill and Teresa live in Concord, California.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 15, at 10:00am at the Grand View Funeral Home Chapel in Pasadena, with graveside services to follow in the cemetery adjacent. Family will receive friends at a viewing to be held on Tuesday, March 14, from 5:00pm-8:00pm.

A special thanks to the wonderful and caring staff in the ICU at Kindred Hospital in Pasadena. They are all angels and words cannot express how thankful the family is for the way they cared for Nina and William over the past several weeks.
