HAASS
Larry Haass for obitLarry Werner Haass, 87, passed away after a gradual decline in health on Saturday, February 10, 2018, in Pasadena, TX. Larry was born on August 26, 1930, in Devine, TX to Hattie and Paul W. Haass. He was raised on a farm in Devine, TX. He enlisted in the United States Navy in July 1948 and served until July 1953.
Larry married Jeanette Minieri on September 13, 1952, in New London, Connecticut at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church. After leaving the Navy, Larry and Jeanette lived in North Reading, MA before moving to Texas to settle in Pasadena, TX. Larry worked at several different mechanical shops before going to work at Houston Lighting and Power as a machinist/mechanic in 1963. While Jeanette was a homemaker raising their three children, Larry worked hard to support his family. His knowledge, mechanical ability, and leadership skills allowed him to be promoted to a supervisor of the HL&P Central Machine Shop until his retirement on March 31, 1992, after 29 years of service. Larry was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers – IBEW Local 66, and served on the board of directors for the Credit Union 66.
Larry enjoyed fishing, using his mechanical skills to keep his vehicles in tip-top shape, and visiting with friends. When Larry traveled, he loved to drive for miles and miles especially to visit the northeastern states in the U.S. He was an avid reader, and his comprehension and memory for a wide variety of interesting topics was amazing. After retirement, Larry was a volunteer for the City of Pasadena – Code Enforcement. Larry was a generous man. He will be missed by all.
Larry loved his family. He is survived by “his bride” of 65 years, Jeanette Haass of Pasadena, TX; Son, Douglas Haass, and wife, Tana of Deer Park, TX; Daughters: Valerie Haass Bilnoski and husband, Michael of Houston, TX, and Rebecca Haass of Sugarland, TX; Grandson, Brock Haass and girlfriend, Angelica Arrellano of LaPorte, TX; and Great-grandson, Conrad Haass. He is survived by his oldest sister, Ann McDaniel. He is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Janice Jackson and Jerry Haass. Larry is survived by numerous other relatives and friends.
