DP's Pettitte gets All-Star nod
PETTITTEDeer Park's Andy Pettitte has been added to the American League All-Star team.
Representing the New York Yankees, he will replace injured Boston Red Sox pitcher Clay Buchholz for next Tuesday night's game at Angel Stadium in Anaheim.
According to ESPN, Pettitte was added to the team Monday because he was next in line in voting by AL players. The players select five starters and three relievers and Pettitte was sixth on that list. This is the third All-Star selection for Pettitte, who previously made the team in 1996 and 2001.
The Deer Park graduate former San Jacinto College and Houston Astros star is enjoying one of his best seasons of his career, sporting a 10-2 record with a 2.82 ERA over 16 starts this season. He is the first-place Yankees' team leader in wins and ERA. His next scheduled start is Thursday at the Seattle Mariners.
