The Deer Park High School Swim team is sending five athletes to this week’s state swim meet after a dominating performance at regionals. Sierra Moralez will represent Deer Park in the girls 100m breaststroke while the boys team of Jimmy Burke, Arden Manuel, Riley Manuel and Dylan Saxton will compete in the 400 freestyle relay.
Deer Park High School records fell left and right at the recent regional swim meet in Pearland, resulting in five DPHS swimmers advancing to the state meet in Austin Feb. 17-18. The 6A preliminaries will take place Feb. 17 at 10 a.m., with the finals at 9:30 a.m. the next day. The meet takes place at the University of Texas at Austin Swim Center.
Sierra Moralez placed second for an automatic qualification in the 100m breaststroke, recording a 1:05.57 and setting a new school record.
On the boys side, the team of Jimmy Burke, Arden Manuel, Riley Manuel and Dylan Saxton placed first in the 400m freestyle record with a time of 3:12.51 to advance to Austin while setting a new school record.
A total of 33 DPHS swimmers competed at the regional preliminaries, with 18 athletes advancing to the regional finals.
At the regional meet, six school records were broken, including one more than 25 years old. The new school marks are:
Girls 200 Medley Relay: Jordyn Waters, Sierra Moralez, Mikayla Wood, Caitlyn Bracher, time of 1:52.57
Girls 200 Freestyle Relay: Emily Pope, Caitlyn Bracher, Sierra Moralez, Mikayla Wood, time of 1:41.39
Girls 400 Freestyle Relay: Sara Boone, Jordyn Waters, Melia Dibello, Emily Pope, time of 3:42.42
Girls 500 Freestyle: Sara Boone, time of 5:23.73 (previous record from 1993)
Boys 100 Butterfly: Arden Manuel, time of :52.02 (previous record from 1991)
Boys 50 Freestyle: Riley Manuel, time of :21.76
