The Deer Park boys basketball team lost its season finale in a 76-75 overtime thriller at West Brook Tuesday night. The Deer end the regular season tied with Rayburn for the final playoff spot in 22-6A. A play-in game for that spot will be Friday at 7 p.m. at Clear Lake High School with the winner advancing to the postseason.

The Deer Park boys basketball team has fought for its postseason life for the better part of the last month. After an 0-5 start to the district season, the Deer needed a win at Beaumont West Brook Tuesday to punch their ticket to the postseason.

Unfortunately, a 76-75 overtime loss to the Bruins means the Deer (20-12, 6-8) will need one more win.

Tristan Ikpe and Dylan Bradshaw led the Deer with 16 points each, followed by the duo of Zack Walker and Bradley Wagner who had 14 and 12 points respectively.

Had Deer Park won, the team would have locked up the fourth and final 22-6A playoff berth with a 7-7 record and knocked out the loser of Tuesday’s Sam Rayburn at La Porte game. Both of those teams also went into this week’s action with 6-7 records.

With the Deer Park loss, the Deer and the Texans, who lost to La Porte now have identical 6-8 records. The two teams will play for the final playoff spot Friday at 7 p.m. at Clear Lake High School. The winner of that game goes on to the playoffs next week.
