The Deer Park boys soccer team lost its first district game of the season in a 3-1 home defeat to Pasadena Memorial. Herson Sandoval provided the only Deer goal. Next up for the team is a road contest at Beaumont West Brook.

The Deer Park boys soccer team fell to Pasadena Memorial 3-1 last night at home for its first district loss of the season

Herson Sandoval gave the Deer an early lead in a defense-driven first half.

The second half was a different story, and Memorial found the cracks in Deer Park's back line to score three unanswered goals.

Deer Park senior Anthony Cantu, who played multiple positions in an effort to keep the game within reach, said Pasadena Memorial challenged the Deer both physically and mentally.

"We knew it was going to be a tough game, and while I think we could've played better we have to admit they played a really good game. It started getting a little chippy there towards the end, we have to clean that up and not get so many fouls. I'm just focusing on our next game though, and use some of the things we learned in this game to prevent the same mistakes,” he said.

The Deer will travel to West Brook high school Friday for its next match.
