The Deer Park boys basketball team is well represented on the year’s all-district teams. Six players total earned all-district honors. The varsity team finished the season with a 21-13 record and 6-8 in district play. The Deer were one of three 22-6A teams to win 20 games this season.

Tristan Ikpe was named the district’s defensive MVP. The junior averaged 8.1 rebounds, two steals, and 1.6 blocks per game. He was the only player in the district to rank in the top three of those defensive categories.

Senior guard Dylan Bradshaw was named first-team all-district, averaging 11 points for the Deer.

Junior Zach Walker earned second team honors for the Deer while Tristan Wright and Blake Brower were honorable mention selections. Senior Tyler Kent was Deer Park’s representative to the all-academic team.

Head Coach Darren Chandler said he was proud of the team’s performance, particularly during a tough stretch in the middle of the season.

“We started the year 13-4, and finished on a 7-3 run to get into the playoffs. It was the 1-5 part of the season that came in between the great start and solid finish that almost doomed us. However, our guys did not panic and we the run we ended the season on was incredible,” he said. “You could make the argument were playing the best ball in district down the stretch.”
