Photos by Andrew Pressley/Deer Park Photos. The Lady Deer kept their perfect record in district play Tuesday night with a sweep of Pasadena Memorial 25-18, 25-7, 25-8.

The first set was a hard-fought battle, with both teams keeping the ball in the air for long rallies. With the game being so close, Deer Park used every aspect of their game including fundamentals, teamwork, and strong serves to try to gain an edge over the opposing team.

Deer Park’s Alysse Harrell, a member of the back line as well as one of the team's more consistent servers, noted that in close sets every point counts.

"Everything starts with the serve, so we try to have a strong serve so it's not easy for them to return. An easily returned serve just makes it harder on us and we want to be the ones in control of the point not them. I like how everyone does their job well, from us in the back to the girls in front. We have roles and I think we all just come together great," she said.

Deer Park ran away with the second and third sets, allowing Memorial to score only 15 points in the final two sets.

Lady Deer Head Coach Cortni Cox applauded her team for the way they played, and likes how they finished every point strong, even with a comfortable lead.

"The intensity was definitely there in the first game from both teams. Our girls knew going into the second set that they needed to continue playing like that, and they did. Our practices have been very intense, and I think that shows in the way we play in games,” said Cox.

“It doesn't matter the score, we have to fight for every point and we cannot let hat ball go down. Our bench is ready to go as well, we use everyone from our bench and they do their role whether it's serving or defense with as much intensity as our starters and that definitely helps out a lot," she said.
