The Deer Park men’s basketball team will go for its seventh consecutive win tomorrow when it hosts Alvin at 7 p.m. Meanwhile, the Lady Deer snapped a five game skid with a victory over Willis at the Clear Creek Tournament over the weekend.

The Deer basketball team rolled into December with a hot streak, winning all four of its games at the Lee College Tournament, and scoring wins against Chavez and Willowridge.

Deer Park took wins against Dayton, Montgomery, Westgate (New Iberia, La.) and Baytown Sterling at the tournament.

Against Sterling, Deer Park senior Tristan Ikpe scored 33 points and had 13 rebounds to the lead the Deer to a 86-62 victory. Zach Walker also had a double-double with 18 points and 10 boards against the Rangers. Other top scorers were Cade Parham and Tristan Wright who had 11 and 10 points respectively.

“A lot of players did great things tonight. We had four guys get in double figures. That’s the second game in a row with that balance in scoring,” said Ryan Bright, Deer assistant coach.

Deer Park had a 23-19 lead after the first, before taking a 37-32 lead at halftime. The Deer outscored the Rangers 49-30 in the second half to take control for the victory.

“We played really well, especially in the second half,” Bright said. “In the first half, we played too much of (Sterling’s) style and tempo.”

The Deer also gained a 63-59 victory over Westgate. Ikpe led the Deer with 15 points and nine rebounds. Brad Milliorn had 14 points while Parham added 13 and Walker 11.

“It was a tough game and we battled some tough, difficult situations,” said Deer assistant Oscar Madrigal. “We’re playing well right now, but we have a lot of things to get better at.”

The Lady Deer snapped a five-game skid with a 44-40 win over Willis at the Clear Creek Tournament. Deer Park raised its record to 3-7 overall in pre-district play. Deer Park returns home Friday for another non-district match up against Pearland Dawson. Tip off at Watkins Gym is at 7 p.m.
