Lady Deer sweep Gators in home opener

Fresh off a strong performance in tournament play over the weekend, the Lady Deer volleyball team notched a 3-0 sweep over Dickinson in the 2017 home opener. Deer Park will spend almost a month away from North Campus in tournament action before hosting South Houston Sept. 8 in the district opener.

Deer Park celebrates state baseball champs

Hundreds of Deer Park baseball fans and area residents lined Center Street and packed the South Campus Café as the community saluted the state champion Deer baseball team. The team was honored with proclamations from local and state officials as well as multi-time world champion Andy Pettitte.

The accolades continue rolling in for the Deer Park baseball and softball teams following their appearances in this season’s state championship tournament. The Lady Deer advanced to its fourth state semifinal game in six years while the Deer baseball team won its first-ever state championship. The baseball team will be honored with a parade Monday night and in pregame festivities at Minute Maid Park Tuesday by the Houston Astros.

The community is invited to celebrate the 6A state baseball champion Deer Park Deer June 26. The evening begins at 7 p.m. with a championship parade down Center Street and ends in at the South Campus Café with the presentation of proclamations and more. The celebration comes after the team won its first-ever state championship earlier this month.

For the first time in the program’s history, the Deer baseball team is state champions. The Deer fended off Southlake Carroll and San Antonio Reagan to earn Texas high school baseball’s highest prize at the state tournament in Round Rock over the weekend. Four Deer players were also named to the all-state tournament team.

After a 3-2 victory over Southlake Carroll Friday afternoon, the Deer will play for the state championship Saturday in Round Rock. The state championship game against San Antonio Reagan is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. FOX Sports Southwest will brodacast the game on television. Viewers should check their cable listings for the channel. The game audio will also be broadcast live on the Deer Network and Legacy Sports Network. Go to for a link to the feed.

Bases loaded walk sends Deer to state tournament

For the first time in 27 years the Deer baseball team has clinched a spot in the state baseball tournament with a dramatic extra innings 2-1 walk-off victory over Ft. Bend Travis. Deer Park will play Southlake Carroll in one of two state semifinal matchups at 4 p.m. in Round Rock Friday. The winner will play for the state 6A title Saturday.
