The 2017 Mayor's Evening of Community Praise is set for April 11 at the Jimmy Burke Activity Center. The annual Deer Park Chamber of Commerce event will feature the announcement of the the laypersons of the year and a performance by Chris Crump, who competed on The Voice.

The Deer Park Chamber of Commerce is asking for nominations for its Layman and Laywoman of the year.

For more than 25 years, the chamber has recognized the efforts of two citizens that have given their time and resources to provide for others by taking the teachings of their faith and using it to help others outside religious structures, such as homes, schools or where they work.

"We are a faith-based community so we feel that it is important to recognize someone who gives back to their community through their faith," said Tim Culp, CEO of the chamber.

Nomination forms are available at the Chamber of Commerce's website, The deadline for submitting nominees is March 15.

Along with the nominee's name and address, the Chamber of Commerce asks for a written description of the service or contribution the nominee has made for the community.

Once nominations are received, a group of previous recipients will pick the final winners who will be announced at the April 11 Mayor’s Evening of Community Praise. The Evening of Praise will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Jimmy Burke Activity Center, 500 W. 13th St. Tickets are $10 per person or $60 per table. Tickets are also available at
