Deer Park Police Officer Ashley Daley, Paramedics Jay Cloud and John Green and EMT Steve Longnecker were recognized with the Lifesaving Award for assisting Russell Bender.

According to Police Chief Greg Grigg, Bender was dining at Luby’s Cafeteria on Center Street when he experienced a medical emergency.

Grigg said Cloud was the first to arrive on the scene and began administering CPR after Bender was located unresponsive. Daley then arrived at Cloud’s side and took over CPR while other medical options were put in place.

Green, Longnecker and Cloud transported Bender to a local hospital where he was later released. He and his mother were on hand to thank the first responders.
