The Deer Park Parks and Recreation Department’s Art Park Players will perform “Shrek the Musical” throughout July, and the opening night (July 7) will include lots of special treats!

“This production is one that both kids and adults will love, and we’ve got lots of fun features to enjoy, from a ‘step and repeat’ photo booth to ogre ear headbands and green boas for $5 each,” Director Susan Mele said. “On the night of the premiere, we’ll even have green cookies and punch, so it will be a great night to come see the show!”

According to Director David Eck, “Shrek the Musical” represents a huge team effort on the part of the Art Park Player family, with over 100 cast, crew and front-of-the-house staff participating.

“We are so excited for audiences to see this production,” Director David Eck said. “We’re renting over 70 costume pieces to create all the favorite characters from the original story, so we’ll have everything from a 20-foot dragon to a full-sized ogre to ‘Donkey’ and ‘Princess Fiona.’”

The cast for “Shrek the Musical” includes Matthew Peña (Shrek), Emmy Smith (Princess Fiona), Vernon Rose (Donkey), Nicole Flenniken (Dragon), Keith Dupree Jr. (Farquaad), and Chad Fontenot (Pinocchio).

Mele and Eck would also like to thank Director Assistants Jordan Lucas and Julia Thomas, Vocal Director Alex Musgrove, Choreographer Heather Steele, Technical Director Joe Piper and Stage Manager Margo Staley.

Tickets are on sale now for the July 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, 21 and 22 performances; Friday and Saturday shows begin at 8 p.m. (7 p.m. meal) and Sunday matinee performances begin at 2 p.m. (1 p.m. meal). Show-only tickets are $15 each and dinner and show tickets are $30 each.
