On that day, the shelter will waive the standard $50 adoption fee and adopters will receive special packages including coupons for $200 in free veterinary services.

“The ‘Clear the Shelters’ initiative is a community-driven nationwide pet adoption campaign that seeks to match deserving animals with loving and permanent homes, and the Deer Park Animal Shelter is so excited to be a part of it,” Animal Control Supervisor Jeanna Hooker said. “Currently at the shelter, we have nearly 20 kittens and adult cats – as well as dogs – that are in need of adoption, so if you’re considering bringing home a new family member, now is the time!”

Hooker said the shelter is also offering discounted adoptions during the full two weeks prior to the August 19 event.

“Right now, since we have so many adorable kittens and cats that need homes, we’re offering half-price adoptions, provided the new pet owner covers the cost to have them spayed/neutered and to get a rabies vaccination,” she said. “That discount will stay in effect through August 19, and we’ll be reporting our results back to ‘Clear the Shelters’ as we see more of our animals find new homes.”

During the culminating event on August 19, the staff of the Deer Park Animal Shelter will not only offer monetary discounts, but also packages sponsored by VIP Petcare and Petco to make the transition into pet ownership even easier.

“We have wonderful packages sent out through VIP Petcare including $200 in free veterinary services,” Hooker said.

“All people will have to do is find a vet, and they’ll be able to redeem coupons for a free vaccine package, free microchipping, a free rabies vaccine, 10 percent off their first online purchase and more.

“Petco also provided us special gift bags and treats for new animals, so we’ll be able to give adopters lots of help with their new pet.”

As always, the shelter will still require those adopting animals during the event to have their new animals spayed/neutered.
