Battleground Golf Course to donate Friday's fees to DP Opportunity Center

Written by InsideDP.com Staff. Posted in Community

Attention, golfers! If you’re looking for a chance to donate to a worthy cause following Hurricane Harvey and enjoy 18 holes, you’re in luck!

The Battleground Golf Course will be donating 100% of the green fees collected on Friday, September 15 to the Deer Park Opportunity Center, and golfers of all ages and experience levels are encouraged to take part.

According to General Manager Rich Earlywine, Touchstone Golf - the entity operating the course – made the decision to organize the fundraising effort to offer direct assistance to residents of Deer Park.

“The Deer Park Opportunity Center is an incredible entity that works directly with residents who need help, and after the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey, we wanted to take action to help them in their efforts,” Earlywine said. “We hope to see the whole Deer Park golfing community out at the course next Friday – let’s do some good and have some fun!”

The event will also include a silent auction with a wide range of sports memorabilia.

The Battleground Golf Course will be open from 6AM-6PM on September 15. For more information, contact the course at 281-478-4653.

According to DPOC Board member Chad Burke, the entity is a network of partners working to create solutions for people in need in the Deer Park community.

The funds raised on September 15 will go toward supporting the organization in a temporarily expanded mission following Hurricane Harvey.

“We are a grassroots, local non-profit benefitting the citizens of Deer Park and students of Deer Park Independent School District,” Burke said. “However, following Hurricane/Tropical Storm Harvey, our board decided to temporarily amend and expand the original charter/scope of the DPOC to include providing support to employees of DPISD and employees of the City of Deer Park affected by the storm. This will allow the DPOC to receive additional funding for a broader constituency base in this difficult time.

“On behalf of the DPOC Board, we want to thank everyone who has donated to this cause since the storm impacted our City, and extend our thanks to those participating in the Battleground Golf Course fundraiser next week. Your support allows us to extend assistance before an individual or family falls through the cracks.”
