Deer Park realtor celebrates big milestone

Carla NettlesA Deer Park native is celebrating a big milestone this month.

“Time flies when you are having fun!” said Carla Nettles, broker-owner of Summit Realtors, who celebrates her 30th year in real estate this month. “Sometimes it seems like just yesterday that I just got my license.”

Nettles started her career at Deer Park Realty with Delecia Fuller as her broker in 1987.

“Delecia took me under her wing and taught me everything. She was a great role model and teacher.” Fuller’s company later became The Prudential Fuller Real Estate and then later sold to Century 21 H*M Realty.

Nettles moved to Pat Lowery & Associates in 1994 where she worked under the great mentor Pat Lowery. After working for large franchise companies, working for a small mom-and-pop company was icing on the cake. She opened her own boutique real estate company, Summit Realtors in January of 1995.

A lot has changed in real estate over the years.

“When I first got in the business, there were no computers or fax machines. There were no lockboxes and when you wanted to show a house that was not your listing, you would have to go pick up a key at another real estate firm or sometimes the owners would just leave the house unlocked. We would promote our listings with flyers made by cutting and pasting artwork and photos. In a way, it was harder but in other ways not. The contracts were shorter and things were simpler,” she said.

Nettles has been one of the top realtors in the area, having produced more than $130 million in sales and selling more than 1,000 homes. She operates a professional, highly ethical organization with experienced agents.

Her parents are Jimmy and Ruthie Dawson, longtime residents. Her husband, Doug is a Deer Park police officer and his parents, Floyd and Marjorie Nettles are also Deer Park residents. She attributes her success to living in the community for so long and having earned a reputation as a hardworking, full time professional who will do a good job for her clients. She said another factor is keeping up with changes in the market.

Nettles invites all home buyers and sellers to contact Summit Realtors for all of their real estate needs.
