The Waterford announces reopening after Hurricane Harvey renovations

Written by Staff. Posted in Community

The Waterford at Deer Park announced its plans to officially reopen in early 2018 with expected move-in dates available as early as January.

The independent living community by Capital Senior Living has been under repair since early September following Hurricane Harvey’s landfall. The Waterford at Deer Park was renovated in 2016 and will be returned to its previous splendor.

Prior to the storm’s arrival, the staff at The Waterford was able to initiate emergency protocols and safely evacuate each of the community’s 103 residents before the building was affected by the storm.

“We’re incredibly thankful we were able to ensure the safety of our residents and staff,” said Susan Jenson, Executive Director at The Waterford. “We can’t wait to welcome back many of our Waterford family in the coming weeks.”

The Waterford at Deer Park was among a number of senior communities forced to evacuate in anticipation of the storm, including nearby Capital Senior Living community, The Waterford at Baytown.

“When our residents’ safety is concerned, we encourage our staff to be proactive instead of reactive,” said Lawrence Cohen, Chief Executive Officer of the Company. “Thanks to their quick decision-making and execution of established protocols, we were able to ensure our residents were with their loved ones before the storm reached our communities.”

Construction on The Waterford will continue into the first quarter of 2018, with priority on renovating resident living spaces. The Waterford is currently open for tours and is accepting leases for 2018. For more information or to schedule a tour, please visit
