Written by Bobby Vasquez. Posted in Community

Many Deer Park High School students have made their mark in the world through service, leadership, philanthropy, innovation and accomplishment. The Deer Park Chamber of Commerce and DPISD are seeking nominations of those graduates for the 2018 Felton F. Waggoner Hall of Honor. Nominations are due to the Chamber Jan. 31.

The Deer Park Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for the 2018 Felton F. Waggoner Hall of Honor – a showcase of the top DPHS alumni.

Any Deer Park graduate who has made outstanding contributions to his or her community or profession and is a positive role model for students is eligible for nomination. Nominations are pared down to four entrants. Nomination forms can be found by clicking here and are due Jan. 31.

The Hall of Honor is named for Felton F. Waggoner, a former high school principal who served the district from 1950 until his retirement in 1973.

Twelve inductees were initially honored in 1997 and each school year since, four inductees have been added. An exhibit is on display in the mall of the Deer Park High School South Campus where the inductees are artistically pictured with a brief history of their accomplishments. Today, the Hall of Honor has 84 members.

Each year, a nominating committee made up of Hall of Honor Board Members selects 20 of the nominees to be presented to the 19-member Board. The board narrows the field until four individuals are chosen to be inducted into the Hall of Honor. These individuals are then honored at the annual Felton F. Waggoner Hall of Honor Banquet and Induction Ceremony.

The 2016 Hall of Honor induction ceremony will be April 28 at Deer Park High School South Campus. More details will be given in the coming weeks.
