DPCAC hears presentation on emergency communications

Written by staff. Posted in Community

dpcaceditedDeer Park Community Advisory Council (DPCAC) completed a series of meetings on who does what to respond to and communicate a significant plant event, such as a fire or explosion. The October meeting explored emergency response; the Nov. 28 meeting focused on emergency communications. In such events, plants notify responsible agencies in impacted cities and in the county. Those agencies then communicate with the public if, for example, there were a need to shelter in place. Plants may communicate with the public by posting a courtesy message on the Community Awareness and Emergency Response (CAER) Line.

Letter to the Editor: Fireworks illegal within city limits

Written by Letter to the Editor. Posted in Community

The New Year is approaching and the use of fireworks is prohibited within City limits. Fireworks are defined as including, in part, all of the following: “firecrackers, skyrockets and rockets, including all devices which employ any combustible or explosive material and which rise in the air during discharge, roman candles, including all devices which discharge balls of fire into the air, chasers, including all devices which dart or travel about the surface of the ground during discharge, sparklers more than ten inches in length or one-fourth of one inch in diameter, all fireworks designed and intended by the manufacturer to create the element of surprise upon the user. The use of these types of fireworks, dangerous fireworks, is prohibited within city limits.

People who use illegal fireworks are a danger to themselves, their friends and their communities. There are plenty of alternatives for celebrating the New Yearsafely without the use of fireworks that can cause injuries and damage property.
