City water supply safe despite odd color
Despite an off color, the city’s drinking water supply is safe for consumption.
City Manager Jay Stokes addressed the issue earlier today. He, like other Deer Park residents has seen water from his own home tinged a yellow or brownish color.
“My wife pointed it out to me. It’s at my home too. But, the water is safe to drink,” he said this morning.
Stokes said more leaves than usual got into the reservoirs of the city’s raw water supplier, causing the discoloration. Engineers in the water treatment plant will add alum to control the color.
“We will also open hydrants around the city to flush out the system and push out the discolored water,” Stoke said. “Hopefully, the colored water will be pushed out by the weekend.”
He said City Hall has received calls from around the city about the color and that water treatment plant engineers were working on getting rid of the color.
