Bats struggle in playoff loss

The Deer Park baseball team’s playoff run came to an end with a two-game sweep at the hands of Kempner in their best-of-three series.
With torrential downpours and lightning storms closing in on Kethan Field Friday night for Game 1, it was the Cougars who brought the thunder with a seven-run rally in the second inning off Deer Park starter Ricky Ramirez. The Cougars rode the rally to an 11-0 run rule win in five innings.
Doomed by four walks and hit batter, Ramirez quickly got the first two outs in the second before things began to unravel for the Deer. Ramirez, who came into the contest 9-0, gave way to righthander Josh Pettitte after 1 2/3 innings.

The weekend's torrential downpours gave way to beams of light Saturday morning. The beams didn't come from the sun, but instead the faces of special needs students and the Deer Park High School football team.
The Deer football players and cheerleaders held the second annual Camp Courage for area special needs students. Several dozen campers were joined on the field by DPHS varsity players and the coaching staff for passing, blocking, running, kicking, defense and even touchdown celebration drills on the field at Clyde Abshier Stadium. Female campers had the opportunity to be a cheerleader for the day.
