Deer honor seniors as tough season ends
The Deer Park men's basketball team honored its seniors Tuesday night in its season finale. Eleven players, student assistants and trainers were participating in their final contests at Watkins Gym as members of Deer Park Basketball.
Head Coach Louie Means said despite the team's difficult season, he was still proud of his team and of the seniors' leadership throughout the year.
Honored during pregame were Stephen Scarborough, Chris Holbrook, David Goedeke, Jeby Kalathoor, Jay Turnipseed, Daniel Grider, Nathan Box Logan White, student assistants Lucas Puckett and Holden Berryhill and trainer Shelby Lee.
"We learned a lot as a group," said Means. "A season like we've had is a life lesson and we realized things were not going to go our way and we would not make the playoffs, we still had a job to do. We were going to finish what we started and do it as a team. Our seniors invested four years into this program and they were going to see it through no matter what."
Unfortunately for the Deer, the evening and season ended in a sour note in a 73-18 loss to District 22-5A champion Northshore.
