City urges caution as floods continue

Written by Staff. Posted in News

Residents of Deer Park are advised that the vast majority of the City is experiencing significant flooding at this time. Unless absolutely necessary, residents are encouraged to remain in their homes and not risk walking or driving through the high waters accumulating on both residential and main roadways.

According to the National Weather Service and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over half of all flood-related drownings occur when a vehicle is driven into ...hazardous flood water. The next highest percentage of flood-related deaths is due to walking into or near flood waters. It takes six inches of moving water to knock over an adult, 12 inches of rushing water to move a small car and approximately two feet to carry away most other vehicles.

Additional information will be provided as it becomes available. Please report any safety concerns to the Deer Park Police Department at 281-479-1511.
