Beginning Monday, Deer Park residents can redeem their bright yellow postcards for trash bags at the Jimmy Burke Activity Center. The distribution center will be open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.

The post cards are bright yellow and residents are advised not to throw them away.

Beginning Oct. 2, the city will operate its trash bag distribution center in the west parking lot of the Jimmy Burke Activity Center, at 500 W. 13th Street, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday - Friday and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays through Oct. 21.

Deer Park residents are limited to two free boxes of garbage bags. For more information, contact Public Works at 281-478-7253.

Residents unable to pick up their bags at this time can visit the utility counter during business hours at City Hall beginning Oct. 23 through Nov. 22. The utility counter is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The distribution of bags at City Hall is subject to availability.

In 2012, the city’s public works department opened up a trash bag distribution center operation for residents. Previously, public works delivered two rolls of trash bags to citizens' doors. However, doing so put a strain on personnel and vehicle assignments while other projects were taking place. Sometimes, maintenance emergencies occurred, forcing public works to pull its crews and vehicles from delivery rounds so they could respond to the call.
