Deer Park ISD announces gate policy for Friday's Border Battle

The eyes of two communities will be on Clyde Abshier Stadium Friday night when the Deer host archrival La Porte in the 57th installment of the Border Battle. This week, Deer Park ISD announced several precautions to keep fans safe and the focus on the game.

The district is hoping to avoid scenes like the one above where students showered the stands with baby powder in 2015. Deer Park ISD announced it would prohibit backpacks and large bags in the stands and baby powder and similar products; deer corn; tobacco products in any form; frisbees, balls and whistles; outside food and drink; and coolers would not be permitted into the stadium. InsideDP file photo.Deer Park ISD announced that several items will be prohibited from being brought into Clyde Abshier Stadium ahead of Friday’s Deer Park-La Porte rivalry football game. Bags and backpacks will not be allowed in the stadium, however small purses and bags will be permitted and will be subject to a visual inspection before being allowed in the stadium.

Other prohibited items include baby powder and similar products; deer corn; tobacco products in any form; frisbees, balls and whistles; outside food and drink; and coolers.

According to a press release from the district, individuals with prohibited items will not be allowed to enter the gates. The district is encouraging all fans to arrive early to the game. The policy will be enforced on both the home and visitor’s sides of the stadium.

Kickoff between the Bulldogs and the Deer is set for 7 p.m. and the game can be heard live via the Deer Network at www.deernetwork.com.
