Deer Park High School is a member of the SETX Fishing organization which is by far the largest organized fishing circuit in the world with an average of 450 teams high school teams per tournament. A season consist of five tournaments where students fish for points in hopes to gain a spot for the championship weekend, which is a two-day tournament.
Each tournament provides scholarship earnings, along with the Championship. The Deer Park Fishing Team was established in 2012-13 school year with the first season having five teams supporting the school as part of the Student Angler Federation. Since then it has expanded to 14 teams.
The events are modeled after professional competitions sponsored by the FLW, with slight alterations that include scholarships instead of blank checks. Not only will students be able to be a leader in the area, they are given the chance to receive hands-on-learning experiences in the field of science, while also learning how best to preserve and protect the environment, all in the interest of hoping to land the big fish and capturing scholarship awards.
