No one was hurt when a small fire broke out at Deer Park High School North Campus Thursday morning. The school was evacuated for a short time and students and staff were able to return to the building a short time later.
A small fire prompted an evacuation of Deer Park High School North Campus at about 10 a.m. Thursday morning.
According to Fire Marshal Buddy Rice, fire alarms were activated by a small toaster oven in a second floor science room. Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department personnel did not need to activate hoses as school staff had already extinguished the fire.
“(The school staff) did a great job of taking care of the incident and the students,” Rice said. “The fire department did not even need to pull hoses (into the building).”
Deer Park ISD evacuated students and staff to the nearby North Campus football stadium behind the school until an all-clear was given a short time later.
