The San Jacinto College District has tabbed Teri Zamora as its vice chancellor of fiscal affairs. Zamora's career has spanned more than 20 years of fiscal leadership in Texas community college systems. She begins her tenure with San Jacinto College on Jan. 3.

Teri ZamoraZAMORATeri Zamora has been named vice chancellor, fiscal affairs at San Jacinto College.

Zamora currently serves as senior vice chancellor of finance and administration at Houston Community College (HCC), and will assume her position at San Jacinto College on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018.

“Ms. Zamora comes to us with more than 20 years of increasingly responsible senior leadership experience,” said San Jacinto College Chancellor Dr. Brenda Hellyer. “At Houston Community College, she has been at the center of reimagining the institution. She skillfully led the transformation of the financial and administrative areas, as well as developed and implemented a fiscal strategy that has resulted in prudent budgets and the acceleration of debt retirement. Through her financial experience she designed procedures to streamline the budgeting process and increase transparency. I look forward to her joining our team here at San Jacinto College.”

As the vice chancellor, fiscal affairs at San Jacinto College, Zamora will oversee the following departments: facilities services; contracts and purchasing; auxiliary services; internal audit; safety, health and risk management; budgets; accounting and financial services; comptroller; office of grants management; and the police department.

At HCC, Zamora coordinates all financial, accounting and budget functions of the college. She oversees facility operations, and has been working on the expenditure of the $425 million bond funds that voters in that district approved in 2013. Her areas of oversight also include financial aid, purchasing, IT, human resources and the police department. As a member of the chancellor’s executive cabinet, she provides advice and assistance on policy development.

“I am impressed by the stability, growth and overall success of San Jacinto College,” said Zamora when asked what interests her in this position. “The collaboration and cooperation between the various areas of the College, the governing board and the local community are apparent. I look forward to learning and contributing as the College continues to embrace future opportunities.”

Prior to working at HCC, Zamora served as vice president of business services at Paris Junior College where she coordinated the annual preparation of the budget, and helped to develop and implement a comprehensive long-range financial plan for the college. She oversaw the operations of all financial, student and grant accounting, banking, purchasing, auxiliary services, physical plant and construction areas of the college.

Before Paris Junior College, Zamora worked at Texas State Technical College. She served as vice president, financial services before moving up to vice president, financial and administrative services. She was then promoted to executive vice president, financial and administrative serves and associate vice chancellor of institutional research.

“I love the community college mission, and know that many of our students would literally have no opportunity to advance their education if their local community college did not exist,” added Zamora. “The access that we are able to provide is life-changing for many, and offers a path to a more fulfilling future than students would have otherwise had.” She adds that the first graduation ceremony she attended was evidence of the joy in accomplishment that students and their families experience, and it is a memory that has remained a motivation for her ever since.

Zamora holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of North Texas, and a Master of Accountancy from the University of Texas – Pan American.
