City kicks off 125 celebration with West presentation

Written by InsideDP.com staff. Posted in News

DP125 largestTo kick off the City of Deer Park's year-long 125th anniversary celebration, City Council member Sherry Garrison will give a special historical presentation at the Deer Park Public Library. There is no admission fee and all are welcome and encouraged to attend. The presentation, which will tell the story of Deer Park founder Simeon West, will begin on Friday, Jan. 13 at 11 a.m. in the library’s meeting room.

"We are so excited to begin our celebration of the City’s 125th anniversary with a look at the life and adventures of our founder,“ Garrison said. “This presentation will explore who Simeon West was, where he came from, his interests and beliefs, and his vision for Deer Park. The research the Historical Committee and I have done has shown Simeon West to be a complicated, adventurous and even a bit eccentric figure, and I think our residents will enjoy learning more about his life.”

This presentation is the latest installment in the library’s Featured Friday series. These monthly programs offer a variety of lectures, movies and special programs of cultural, historical and local interest.

The 125th celebration will continue throughout 2017, with special events, concerts and holiday gatherings. To keep up with all the activities planned through the City, the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce and the Deer Park Independent School District, visit www.deerparktx.gov/125th.

Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Deer Park Public Library. The library is located at 3009 Center St., Deer Park, TX 77536. The telephone number is 281-478-7208.
